Doe He Get Us?

February 13, 2023

If He gets us, the commercial would not exist,
If He gets us, there wouldn't be any war, only peace,
If He gets us, we wouldn't be as divided as we are today
If He gets us, there wouldn't be so many churches with different doctrines
If He gets us, there wouldn't be any big stages
If He gets us, there wouldn't be a sound system or a band
If He gets us, there wouldn't be any empty chairs
If He gets us, there would be many times to ask questions
If He gets us, there would be more mystery than absolutes
If He gets us, we wouldn't need small groups where we don't fit in
If He gets us, we would be welcome not matter our past or dress code
If He gets us, we wouldn't be told how to pray or take the bread and wine
If He gets us, we would walk in humility rather than with pride
If He gets us, we would put other's needs before our own
If He gets us, facts and history won't be covered up, distorted, or restricted
If He gets us, leadership would actually be held accountable for mistakes
If He gets us, there would be no need to push "obedience"
If He gets us, women would be leaders
If He gets us, male leaders would gracefully step down when their abuse is exposed
If He gets us, we would accept our darkness instead of preserve our ideology
If He gets us, love will never be conditional
If He gets us, we wouldn't be deciding who's the sheep or the goat
If He gets us, dignity would never be denied
If He gets us, no one, and I MEAN NO ONE would be called a demon or Satanic
If He gets us, people would understand that autism and neurodiversity is real and not from an evil spirit
If He gets us, more folks who identify as LGBTQA+ will be welcome with open arms
If He gets us, everyone would have value and equal rights simply because they breathe
If He gets us, we would all be okay with people who live and believe different things
If He gets us, drag queens wouldn't need to be protected when they read to children
If He gets us, we would move on instead of being distracted by "disturbing" pop culture
If He gets us, we would know the difference between privilege and miracles
If He gets us, the first would actually seek to be last
If He gets us, fame, power, status, marriage, and influence wouldn't be "blessings"
If He gets us, children would be raised by both family and the village
If He gets us, children would grow to be compassionate when they learn about racism
If He gets us, children would be a priority instead of a 45
If He gets us, there probably would be no guns
If He gets us, women will be able to choose, and if they give birth, we would help that baby grow up
If He gets us, teenagers wouldn't have to go through the pain of molestation,
If He gets us, boys would be told to keep it in the pants instead of girls being told to cover up
If He gets us, there would be no father daughter dances
If He gets us, we would actually love our neighbor and welcome "strangers"
If He gets us, we would sell it all and feed the hungry, not just spiritually, but physically
If He gets us, we would protect the vulnerable instead of push personal responsibility
If He gets us, we wouldn't pursue a flawed definition of purity at all
In fact, if he gets us, straight white American Jesus Christ with a MAGA hat and an AK47 would never exist today.

Perhaps, there may be some confusion, maybe God does get us,
But I'm pretty sure that none of his followers get him.
